New Year, New Perspective
Many of us are just so ready to say goodbye to 2020.So now is the perfect time for me to give you a different perspective about how to start a new year off right so that it's going to be your best year yet.January is my month because it’s vision month. I am claiming January as Viva La Vision month and I'm going to be doing some fun things all throughout the month to support you in your vision, goals, and dreams.
The Reason for the Season
Christmastime should be a joyful time of year. That’s why there’s something I feel called to clear up: it's not about the gifts. It is, however, about so much more…For me, Christmas traditions have become more “because I have to” than “because I want to.”We send the cards. We bake the cookies. Although I must tell you, baking is NOT in my wheelhouse. For many years, I had to get my sister-in-law and mother-in-law to come over for a whole day and bake all those Christmas cookies for me!Do all the teachers have their gifts? What about co-workers?Friends of friends?Do I have to give one to the mailman?Somehow, we’ve lost sight of the real meaning of the season.
Create Your Vision to Find Purpose
I am on a mission to help you and everybody you want to impact find their vision and purpose because we need to disrupt the patterns in this world. The sadness, the scarcity mentality, feeling stuck, feeling anxious – all the things that I know people are struggling with, especially this year. This past year, there have been many changes that we’ve been thrust into. Ones that we weren’t planning on at all.I’m no stranger to adversity. In the past six years, I lost my husband and then my son to suicide. Please take it from me, you can get through anything that happens in your life.
Choosing Joy
We are in the season of joy.And I think this year, it's been more challenging than ever for people to choose joy every day.I've had a lot of loss. I've lost both my husband and my son to suicide in the past six years. One of the biggest things we tend to attach joy to is our family. When you lose that, you can really start thinking, why me? and you can go down that whole slippery slope of ‘my life is over. It doesn't matter anymore.’Here’s the thing: your joy is not attached to circumstances or things, age, or people.I see people just wishing 2020 to be over, as though something magical is going to happen on January 1st when we flip over the calendar.
The Importance of Being Grateful
Thanksgiving is a time to reflect. It’s the perfect chance to thank the people in your life for the benefits that they bring. For many people, they think back on the past year and come up with an answer for what they’re most grateful for when they’re asked at the Thanksgiving table.I believe gratitude should not be a one-day affair. It should be a life-long pursuit.Every day, I spend an hour suiting up for the day. I get into a quiet place, read scripture or devotionals, and journal.
