“If there are nine rabbits on the ground, if you want to catch one, just focus on one.” – Jack Ma
This is the quote in my day planner today and it aligns with something I have learned for myself, and that I teach others. I hope this message will help you today in so many areas of your life….
Ever heard anyone say “I’m just so busy!?’ I think this phrase along with ‘how is your day’, or, ‘I am fine’ has become totally expected and accepted in our daily conversations. I do understand that there are times in our lives where activities seem to need attention all at once and we go a little (or a lot) out of balance, but I do know that it does not have to be this way every day of our lives.
The problem comes down to this; lack of boundaries and not operating within the non-negotiable 24 hours in the day. Too many times I see people doing so many things they should not be doing because they are underestimating how much time it really takes, or they want to please others more than taking care of themselves. I have come to know from my own personal training and experience, that there are really only 3 main things I need to focus on each day and the rest either needs to be dumped or delegated. Most specifically, with regards to what I do for a living I am very clear of what my ONE Zone of Genius is and how to operate in it 80-90% of the time. Can I just tell you how much more enjoyable, healthy, intentional, and peaceful my life has become?
I want to encourage you today (especially before we head into the holiday season!), to take a hard look at all the things you are doing every day that you probably should not be doing, and to please not say ‘yes’ to anything that does not align with your vision and purpose. Take ownership of the fact that life is not doing this to you, we are doing it to ourselves. We were not meant to be ‘all things to all people’ and ‘chasing nine rabbits’ is keeping you from being the amazing, purposeful human you were meant to be for yourself and the ones you love!
